Easy Street

about

This was my spin on the City Pop genre. I love 80's sounds - synths, drums, layered vocals with a bit of funk. I worked together with the wonderful Jono Fernandez at his Surry Hills studio to record this in a half day. I've also been trying to learn Korean, so there is a bit sprinkled in there in the 2nd verse.

I love the song 'Dolls' by the Kpop Group Nine Muses, and how the lyrics were such a juxtaposition to the production of the song. It's one of the happiest sounding break up songs I've heard. I guess this is my attempt to emulate that.

lyrics

quiet nights at the discotheque
makes it hard to theorise
how long it takes for me to lose my mind
where words take place of objects

'should I decide to have my coffee black?'
as conversational subjects
turning into killing time
for Soup for 1 in excess

CH:
I've got somebody telling me
that things will get better
it isn't as bad it seems
Making it look like I'm living on easy street
gotta find a move
gotta find a groove
for now just let me be

지금 답답해 (jigeum dapdaphae)
너무 힘들어 (neomu himdeuro)
it's difficult to engineer:
'괜찮아요, 괜찮아요' (gwenchanayo, gwenchanayo)

I'm on my own
I'm doing what I want
but I've still got your mixtape
somewhere in my glovebox
